Cesare Buratti was born in Rome and graduated from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, first in Foreign Languages and Literature and then in Humanities, all with highest honors.

 

He took the course in Opera Direction at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome, with brilliant final results.

 

He further enriched his cultural talents in art and theatre in Mexico, with a scholarship to the “Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes/I.N.B.A.” of Mexico City and in Spain, where he taught at the Italian Culture Institute of Barcelona.

 

He participated in operatic representations in music festivals of significant artistic interest such as: Opera Barga, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Associazione MusicaleMattia Battistini” of Rieti, Associazione Lirico-Concertistica/As.Li.Co of Milan, Laboratorio Lirico Sperimentale of Alessandria, Teatro Lirico-Sperimentale “Adriano Belli” of Spoleto, “Teatro Studio” of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Luglio Musicale Materano, Festival Pontino di Musica.

 

He further developed his professional skills as an opera director working with well known directors such as: Filippo Crivelli, Arnoldo Foà, Renzo Giacchieri, Carlo Maestrini, Virginio Puecher, Graziella Sciutti, Sandro Sequi, Franca Valeri, Raf Vallone.

 

He has worked as Associate Director, preparing, carrying out and/or completing the staging of the director in charge, in the following operatic productions, which are part of his repertory, and were performe both in principal theatres, in such places as Bergamo (Teatro Donizetti), Brescia (Teatro Grande), Cosenza (Teatro Rendano), Sassari (Teatro Verdi), Treviso (Teatro Comunale), and in the “Fondazioni Liriche” (once “Enti Lirici Autonomi”) of Cagliari (Teatro Lirico), Florence (Teatro Comunale), Genoa (Teatro Carlo Felice), Turin (Teatro Regio), Triest (Teatro Verdi): “La bohème”, “Mignon”, “La fanciulla del West”, “Tosca”, “La forza del destino”, “Nabucco”, “Manon Lescaut”, “Macbeth”, “Ernani”, “Andrea Chénier”, “Cavalleria Rusticana”, “Pagliacci”, “La traviata”, “Otello”, “Adriana Lecouvreur”, “Lucia di Lammermoor”.

 

He has collaborated with famous conductors such as Maurizio Arena, Angelo Campori, José Collado, Franco Ferraris, Edoardo Müller, Daniel Oren, Georges Prêtre, Gianfranco Rivoli, Pinchas Steinberg, and with internationally known opera singers such as Giovanna Casolla, Maria Chiara, Ghena Dimitrova, Raina Kabaivanska, Carmen Lavani, Denia Mazzola Gavazzeni, Adelaida Negri, Maria Parazzini, Galina Savova, Luciana Serra, Mara Zampieri, Marilyn Zschau, Fiorenza Cossotto, Maria Luisa Nave, Lucia Valentini Terrani, Giorgio Casellato Lamberti, Gianfranco Cecchele, Ottavio Garaventa, Giuseppe Giacomini, Nicola Martinucci, Barry McCauley, Giorgio Merighi, Jesùs Pinto, Nunzio Todisco, Franco Bordoni, Garbjs Boyagian, Piero Cappuccilli, Mateo Manuguerra, Giampiero Mastromei, Juan Pons, Aldo Protti, Angelo Romero, Domenico Trimarchi, Giorgio Zancanaro, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Cesare Siepi, Ivo Vinco.

 

Cesare Buratti made his debut as Director in Charge with the staging of “L’elisir d’amore” at the Ariston Theatre of San Remo, followed by “Don Pasquale” at the Alessandria Civic Theatre and, “La contadina astuta” in Florence.

 

For the Trapani Musical July festival he directed “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci”. In addition he has staged “Il campanello”, “The Little Sweep”, “Une éducation manquée”, “Kaffee-Kantate” and “La serva padrona”, these last two at the Villa Medicea di Poggio Imperiale, Florence.

 

His collaboration in musical programmes about opera on RaiUno such as “Musica Musica”, and “Confronti” of “Notturno Italiano” on the radio, has been greatly appreciated.

 

Since being a maestro of Opera Workshop at the Conservatories of Music of Matera, Potenza, Pesaro in the brench of Fermo, Campobasso and Florence, and he has been for twenty-six years full professor of the same course, called “Theory and Technique of Stage and Performing Interpretation”, at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory of Music in Rome, where he has held, too, a Drammatization Course for students of both Voice and Composition.

 

During approximately forty years of teaching at the conservatory, he has had among his students opera singers such as Ermonela Jaho, Florencia Fabris, Jessica Loaiza Pérez, Veronica Marini, Raffaella e Giorgia Milanesi, Maria Pia Jonata, Patrizia Biccirè, Chiara Santoro Gomes, Shin Della, Susanne Bungaard, Luisa Ciciriello, Clizia Aloisi, Miho Hirota, Dionisia Di Vico, Yukari Aizawa, Cristina Reale, Gloria Petrini, Irene Molinari, Alisa Zinovjeva, Eero Lasorla, Park Seong Do, Manuel Flores Palacios, Gangsoon Kim, Alessio Potestio, Kwon Woo Yong, Seong Bok Kim, Cesidio Iacobone, Luciano Leoni, Razek François Bitar and many more.

 

He has held, as part of the Erasmus Project, Opera Workshop Master Classes, in Spain at the Superiors Conservatories of Music of Malaga and in Canary Islands, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as well as at the Upper School of Singing in Madrid.

 

Furthermore, he has held courses in Stage Interpretation of Opera in Latin America: at the Parque of Conocimiento of Posadas and the “El Cìrculo” Theatre of Rosario in Argentina; at the “Sofia Mendoza” School of Singing of the Municipal Institute of Art at Asunción in Paraguay; and at the Istitute of Music of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Montevideo in Uruguay
